Validation process has changed!!!!!

All new users are now immediately confirmed after the initial email verification but with limitations. I wont go into details about the limitations (why make it easier for the spammers) but you will know what they are when you start using the forum. These limitations are only temporary and will go away in a short time depending on your activity and conduct.

I cleaned out ALL USERS that were waiting to be validated before the date of June 1, 2011.

If you were on the wait list and didnt get approved just signup again.

This time there will be no wait.

May I ask how long the probation period should be expected to last? Granted, I just registered about an hour ago, but I've followed this forum with my fiance for several months and wanted to set up an account of my own. Is there a way to prove that I'm not a spammer to gain more access? I tried to update my profile to provide more personal information, but am denied access.

I am interested in posting information about a couple dresses I own and would like to sell to serious reenactors and I know that this forum is the best place to find the audience I seek. I would love to keep my posting off of eBay and Craigslist if at all possible so I will only attract serious inquiries and not those hunting for Halloween "costumes". You response is greatly obliged.

I'm a long time living historian who has fallen on hard times and decided to leave the hobby. I understand that I have just joined this group, but I have many good items from my kit that I would like to try to sell as soon as I can. I will be sure to donate a portion of my proceeds back to this site for allowing me that privilege. I am just curious as to when I'll be able to post in that section of the forum?

I see that several inquires have collected here, that I've somehow missed and and Bob is on the road most of the time.

First and foremost, The Civil War Reenactors Forums are devoted to discussing the period, reenacting issues, history and such. We encourage participation in discussions.

We're glad to provide a venue for sales, but we do require a certain number of posts in the discussion forums before a member can post in the sales forums. In part, we do this to aid in protecting our users, as some high ticket items change hands here.

Somehow, I would not be quick to make a substantial purchase from someone who had not demonstrated a knowledge of the period, and had joined solely to sell.

Junior Members can post as soon as they've completed the verification process--but each post must be read and approved by a moderator. Sometimes this happens within minutes---other times you hit a fine fall weekend in which every one of these volunteers are at events or are otherwise pursuing their non-electronic lives.

Thank you very much for your reply. I can certainly understand your fierce guardianship of the site against spam.

My husband, son and I were very active reenactors to the extent of even having a Civil War style wedding where everyone came in costume. My husband, unfortunately, died just after our third wedding anniversary. That was nearly 22 years ago. I thought that it was time to part with my beautiful gown and wanted to post it on a site where the quality and the history of the dress would be recognized and appreciated. The dress was made by Harriet Engler, an outstanding seamstress known at the time throughout the U.S. for her exquisite designs.

In addition the dress was used for the Don Stivers' print entitled "Wedding at West Point." Like Miss Elizabeth, I wanted to avoid the generic Ebay and Craigslist venues and this site seemed like the perfect spot.


I no longer reenact and therefore cannot contribute to any discussions, which would qualify me to submit a classified ad post.

I have been a longtime reader on this site but have never posted nor felt a need to. I have made a decision to exit the hobby and am looking to sell portions of my kits. What is the typical wait time before that is allowed.

We like for sellers to be known members of the community.

Junior Members may not use the Classifieds until they have a certain number of approved posts in the discussion forums. We've recently raised that number in response to some problems we've had.

So, it's not a matter of waiting out a time frame. It's about participating, and taking the time to know our sales rules before jumping in. The same is true of other major Civil War Forums.

If you are no longer interested in the hobby, EBay is an excellent venue for volume sales at a small price.

In addition, Facebook has a group operated by Matthew Joe Mallory called The Trade Blanket. It has less restrictive rules and a multi-time period focus.


We hope you find something that meets your needs.

Very good. We have been hit with posters unloading their good in 3-4 advertisements, back to back, with less than 10 posts. It seems like "Hey I'm here and want to unload all my things, but don't care about participating". Good work mods.

Hello,

I am a little behind the learning curve here. I am trying to access "my profile" so that I can set up some sort of auto-signature and it says I do not have access. How do I go about setting up my profile?

Also, It appears that my posts are also delayed in posting which I presume is due to needing moderator review and is a normal part of the validation process. I am not so worried about this at this time... just want to get my profile up and running.
