British Users?

Hi all,

My name is Gavin Maitland. I was pointed toward this site by the late, great Sean McKenna who taught me wet-plate in London. I am finally getting round to getting started on my own and was wondering if there are any other UK practitioners who use this site who might be able to give me some advice on where to get materials and what to ask for?

Thanks,

Gavin.

Hi Gavin,
There are quite a few Collodion photographers in the UK.
I live both in Germany and England (Bristol), John and Tony in Manchester, Richard in N-Wales, a photographer and camera builder who's name just escaped me in the Leeds area.
I get most of my chemicals from various sources on the continent, except for the pyrogallol (redevelopment of negatives) and some metal salts whiche are cheaper in England. My clear glass is from WessexPictures (8 GBP for a pack of 50 7x5in plates).
As for the chemicals you might best contact John in Manchester.
I'll organize some collodion events in Bristol and Surrey this spring and summer. just let me know if you're interested.

Cheers

Michael
