"This cowardly traitor state, secure from harm, as she thought, in her central position, with hellish haste dragged her Southern sisters into the caldron of secession. Little did she dream that the hated flag would again wave over her soil, but this bright morning a thousand Union banners are floating in the breeze.... W.T. Sherman
I was there with the First Battalion, ANV. The weather on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday sucked. Saturday and Sunday were beautiful. Getting on site Wednesday was tough because of the rain and muddy tracks. Leaving today was a breeze. Easiest exit from a big event in my memory.
I left early wednesday morning, By the time i got there they closed the roads in to the camps due to very muddy conditions, they did not want what happened at new market to happen there. we went in on thursday the road had dried enough to let us in. luckily some one had assigned us to the wooded area (confederate camp) very tight camp. by the time every one was in we had roads between tents that were 2 feet wide. very good turnout from our group. very well run event. I must congratulate those in charge. no cameras on the field. Lots of ice trucks and ice angels, refrigerated hospital trailer for those that needed it. very good security, good administration. It was very humid and hot at the beginning of the event but later on the temp dropped . i went in to five battles , died twice . the last time 25 feet from the wall pickett's charge. overall very good event i enjoyed every thing even ran in to a descendant of robert e lee . Very many thanks to all those responsible, good job.
