Civil War Weekend 21-22
Fort McHenry

Overview:

A large Union encampment and drill weekend. Activities include a morning dress parade, cannon- firing demonstrations, Confederate prisoners, concerts by the Second South Carolina String Band and ongoing fife and drum music. A highlight of the weekend is the Saturday night firing demonstration and concert starting at 7:00.

Schedule

Start/end times: Saturday morning, Park reopens 8:00 AM, until after Dress Parade on Sunday afternoon between 4:00 and 5:00 PM Sunday.

The schedule for Saturday and Sunday will be drill, demonstrations and living history.

Friday arrivals: Either Steve or Jason will be there Friday when the gate officially closes to let people in. If you are planning on arriving Friday night after the gates close at 8:00, the gang will be meeting at J. Patrick's. We will have a key to let everyone back into the Fort afterwards. J. Patrick's is located at 1371 Andre Street. Andre Street is the next-to-last north-south street before the long railway overpass into Fort McHenry. J. Patricks is one block north of Fort Avenue on Andre Street. Back up location is JR's Bar & Grill in the 1200 block of Hull St.

Description

Role of rank and file: 1861 U.S. Regulars. Drill and training of new recruits before sending them to the seat of war.

Uniform: Dress and Fatigue Uniform Trousers will be the light blue for both dress and fatigue

Equipment: Heavy marching order (expect a full pack inspection on Sunday)

Quartering: The company street will be made up A-Frames, so bring them if you have them. Also, if you have any wall tents or flys, bring them. We will be making an inventory and doing what needs to be done to get them all in working order for future use. Bring shelter tents as back up.

Ammunition: 40 rounds, but be prepared to turn them in to the Ranger if we can't keep them with us - bring a bag with your name on it.

Food: No cooking on park property. The Park will provide Saturday Dinner. Bring ready to eat food with you for noon meals. We will find a local establishment for Breakfast.

Where to meet unit: Report to visitor's center for musket inspection.

Registration information: Let your Corporal know if you plan to attend by 3 April so we can get information to the Fort so they can allocate space and to the NR so they can organize the companies.

Registration on site: At visitor’s center upon arrival.
