Grants Head Quarters - City Point, Petersburg National Park Weekend

City Point, VA (Petersburg National Park)

Schedule

 10 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, 9AM to 3 PM on Sunday.

Registration

Notify chain of command by July 3
Fee: $10 for food. Unit must receive payment by July 3.
Registration: Will take place upon arrival. Event will have something like
a table under a tree near the Manor house, signs and directions to
reenactor/volunteer parking from the entrance to the City Point site
Where to meet: Manor house and Grant's cabin, City Point Unit (Petersburg National Bfld.)

Description

Host:  Petersburg National Battlefield

Command Structure:  Sykes’ Regulars Command

Portrayal:  Living history portrayal of Grant’s Headquarters in 1864. Staff Officers and 4th U.S. Infantry guards.

Role of rank and file:  4th US Infantry soldiers, Guards for Meade’s Headquarters

Uniform:  Fatigue Uniform   Late war Meade’s Staff: Officer. 4th US INF Guards: Sacks and light blue trousers. Forage cap. We may get some addition guidance on uniforms for guards. Will post changes as we get new information.

Equipment:  Heavy Marching Order

Quartering:  Full Camp   Shelter halves on the actual Petersburg battlefield

Ammunition:  DO NOT bring rounds or percussion caps.

Food:  Event will provide food for a $10 fee, due to Sykes’ Treasurer by July 3. If you pay, event will provide Lunch and Dinner on Saturday and Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday. Food will be soft bread, stew, vegetable of some kind. All additional meals will be had at the local eating establishments.

Directions:  From Richmond and points North:

Take I-95 SOUTH towards RICHMOND,

Take the I-295 SOUTH exit towards ROCKY MT NC, exit #84A,

Merge on I-295 SOUTH to Rt 10 EAST,

Follow route 10 across the River, then Left on Appomattox Street,

Left on Cedar lane to the City Point park entrance.

Directions to Manor house and Grant's cabin will be provided.
