Description
Host: Pamplin Historical Park
Command Structure: TBD at the Park
Portrayal: Wright’s Union 6th Corps, April 1865. Probably 1st Div.
Role of rank and file: Battle reenactment in rifle pits and entrenchments, Living History, Drill, some participation in other park events TBD.
Uniform: Fatigue Uniform Sacks and light blue trousers. Forage cap or appropriate civilian hat. Late War, hard-bitten, hard-marching veterans impression. If you want to wear a corps badge, it would be the Greek Cross of Wright's Sixth Corps., best to use the first division red for consistency.
Equipment: Heavy Marching Order
Quartering: Bivouac Shelter halves on the actual Petersburg battlefield. Firewood, straw, water and jiffy johns provided by the park. Don’t know if this will be Company Street or bivouac.
Ammunition: Bring enough blanks and caps for the weekend. This will not be a big powder burner a la Gettysburg but there will be shooting. 60 rounds sounds good.
Food: There will be an official rations issue on Saturday morning. This will probably be potatoes and baboon ass (corned beef). This is lunch for both days. The park will feed everyone a hot meal for dinner Saturday night. Unless we want baboon ass for breakfast, we should plan on bringing something.
Additional Information
Event web page: Pamplin Park
Directions: From Richmond and points North: I-95 South toe I-85 South; to exit 63-A (US 1 South).
Appeal for participation: The event coordinator has seen our website and is impressed. There may be a drill competition against the Rebs. The more Regulars, the better the chance of winning for the Federals. The park only invites good units to their events and they are providing a lot of stuff for free. It would be great if we could get a big turnout for this.
