Recipients
of the National Regiment's
Médaille "Esprit de Corps"

John started reenacting in 1976, first as a Confederate in the 1st North Carolina Infantry, though he also portrayed Union (as there were never enough Federals at most events he went to and the Federals usually had better marches), falling in with "Sherman's Bummers" at western events and other units here in the east. He has been a member of Company C, 53rd Pennsylvania since 1981 soon after the organization was started. He has been a member of the 53rd ever since and they joined the National Regiment soon after its inception. He received the Soldier of the Year award, which was a "very humbling honor" and surprise, for assisting in getting a event rescheduled from Antietam National Battlefield to Gettysburg National Military Park. John hopes this may start a new tradition and relationship between the NR and Gettysburg.
