It is with
pride that the National Regiment presents the 2003 Soldier of the Year
Award
to 1st Lieutenant Charles Klein,
5th New York
Infantry, Duryee's Zouaves. The Medaille "Esprit de Corps" goes to Charles Klein, for his long and distinguished service, tireless energy and military skills. Charlie's introduction to reenacting began in 1959 with the 42nd New York, and he took part in the Civil War Centennial. Following his service in the US Army, in 1969 Charlie returned to reenacting as a founder and Sergeant of the 4th Virginia of the Stonewall Brigade, and he was associated with that unit for over a decade. He joined the 5th New York in 1980 and has been a stalwart, hard-working and dedicated member of the Duryee Zouaves and of the National Regiment. We wish him well in his retirement to Hatteras, North Carolina, and value his many contributions, and above all his friendship. |
