Some comments on the forge. Image 59 Man at raised charcoal(?) fire with hood, holding tongs, possibly working on mounts. It looks like this person is forge welding bands to a pipe. I am guessing steel as this type of fire is massive over kill for brass or copper. If he was brazing or soldering there was better ways of doing it at that time. Woo Dude, Propane torch is pretty extreme, you only need about 450 degrees, not the 3,500 you will get with propane. All you need to do is heat the mercury to a point that its surface tension releases molecules into the air. We always used the Kodak red glass filters from the darkroom light fixtures. Ruby Lith blocks UV and transmits Red. UV was considered the Attenuating Light (making the exposure) and Red was the Continuing light (Developing) or something like that. Memory fades. The important thing is to block all the UV.

When making the decorative pattern on velvet, I lay the velvet fuzzy side down on a rubber stamp and then Iron the smooth side pressing into the stamp. The heat holds the fibers in the stamp shape. EDurrill

I am not 100% on this but I seem to remember seeing a bottle of mat lacquer in a “Coloring” kit that would be form about the right time. The mat lacquer supply’s “tooth” once the coloring was done, a glossy lacquer would be applied to restore the gloss. The powders in the kit looked like artist powered pigments, like what you can get form dick blick and are used to custom mix oil paint.

What crime did you commit to get sentenced to Jefferson City? Cole Camp is usually one of the larger ones.
