It is still a little early, but I figured I'd get it rolling. Who is going? I will be attending this year and bringing along of the 8x10 field plate cameras.

He uses it for 2nd coat due to price. It IS needed for second coat. He uses the minwax stuff for 1st coat since collodion doesn't come into contact with it. I was just using the balsam for both coats. For your question: other alternatives to take place of balsam react with collodion and mess up images.

Over the last few years, I've three television programs done on my cameras and also three magazine things. Here is a link to one filmed in December. It is ok, except my own voice just drives me nuts. I sound so goofy. JB's Journal Here is one done a couple years ago. The link just goes to the paper's site and scroll down a little, and on the left the video is there in a little box. You

No to galvanized. And to answer the upcoming question; you cannot atually remove the "coating."

Yes, and it has been done. I've seen some plates John C. has done using 5%. You just gotta do the math.

I used to buy the stuff from Kennedy. I liked it. Van Dykes Restorers is also a good source for the sheets. McCarr does not sell "tin coated" stuff. I used to use their shim, it was ok. With the electro. tin, be sure to scuff it up good with a rough pad.

Mike (Artcraft) does not sell KCN or Ether anymore. Shelf life of UNsalted collodion is "supposedly" indefinite. Once salts are added, then the countdown begins. Make small batches as needed.

When I started, I made this miniature room with a door and the outside was covered with panneling. I actually had a kid think it was a porta potty. Bruce, do you remember it when you came and met me at Port Hudson a long time ago? The thing ended up blowing over in DeRidder Louisiana in a wind storm and Silver Nitrate was everywhere. That was the last time I used it.

all day. but, too many in one tub can make for a trajedy when they all slip and fall; had it happen more than once. Just pull some out every so often and put them on a drying rack, then you can varnish at the end of the day.

After months of designing and construction, I have my new line of wet plate cameras on a roll. 8x10 format folding field plate camera. Having been making historical cameras for the last few years, I have come up with a "modern" design with most of the "bells & whistles" of a modern sheet film camera, but specifically made for wet plate work. I designed it to be more structurally stable to supp

Keep a couple plates and your collodion pour bottle in your jacket pocket to keep warm. I've done fine down to below freezing with everything else cold. Beware the floating ice in the rinse water; I've had the ice piece rip the collodion when pulling plate from the water.

Here is a video showing what my new cameras are going to be like. Very modern, but still a dedicated plate camera. The camera in the video is an unfinished one, but I've had quite a few emails and posted it to show how the new verion actually works. Guillory Cameras Video

Oh, style would be Jacobean or simply Pilgrim furniture. The Sack's book calls it "Pilgrim," but other texts call it Jacobean. OR, there could be the chance it is just junk repro. from the early to mid 1900's. A lot of that still around.

Good gosh, that is such a loaded question. Mainly because reproductions of furniture have been made ever since originals were being made. I am no expert, but I went and grabbed a couple books on the subject, the main one being by Albert Sack. That cupboard has a lot of similarities of the furniture made from around 1670-1700. These things being the clunky build, the applied spindles, and the

I have a theory about the New York lenses. I have messed with quite a few of them, and some at the same time. I think HBH and CC had optics made by the different makers, but I swear the brass was made by the same maker. My theory is that HBH and CC made their own optics and contracted out the brasswork. The other NY maker (Parker, I think) also looks the same.

Hey all, no secret, I stopped making cameras a while back. What I learned doing cameras has just propelled me to other woodworking. I am slowly getting into doing period furniture. You know, the early American stuff circa. 1700-1800. The woodworking I do is mostly hand work; things like hand cut dovetails, hand planing surfaces, etc. No screws holding anything together, true joinery. Th

Go to Control Center, then go to Edit My Files. Then do browse, and that should search within you computer, upload, and once uploaded right click the file name and "copy link location", then paste in where it asks when posting and hitting the image icon. The file must be small size, it tells you the file size before uploading. Or, you can pout images on things like flikr or any other photosh

Yes, I looked at the issue last night at Wally-world. The wet plate images were neat in the way, he always made sure to put a truck or other obvious modern thing in the image. Not really my thing, and I'm sure the same for most guys here, but if that is his thing, it was done nicely.

Drew, your representation is exactly as I did it. The fly did drape over the ridge pole only about half way down the other side. I staked it out away from the tent a little to help with rain. Also, at night or in rain, I would undo the fly poles and tie the fly angled down and store stuff under it. With it angled down, rain flows off pretty good.
