If its in glass it will last longer. I've had collodion in tin cans turn old on me. Not a problem with glass. (Usually use up a bottle in 6 months or less).

Tincture is cheap. Look in the first aid section at your local drug store. Couple $ at the most. Chris

I have a good friend selling his handpainted 5X7 backdrops. Your choice: $550 ea. plus actual shipping costs. These are on heavy canvas and are UNUSED. Been stored since commissioned. The gentleman never got to actually shooting wetplates as he had planned. Yes, the American flag is "wrong" for the period. This is done on purpose, and if you wish to...just paint over it.

Ive been through various stages of a compound over the last 10 years...from a 6-foot standard a-frame to a 10X12 wall tent to a 9ft a-frame and back to a wall tent. The time I enjoyed it the most was when I had the 6 ft a-frame...it was cramped, but quick and easy to setup and take down. I had my work table, sleeping spot and room for all of my gear packed in there. That tent and a backdrop

Thanks guys. I was surprised too Bob. I like the fall off that is there. I think if I were to put that extra bulb (if its blue) in the bottom, that would eliminate the fall off and probably knock a second or 2 off of the exposures... The reflector is a silver sided insulation panel from sLowe's...white foam on one side, silver on the other. $12 for a 4X8 sheet. That silver kicks back al

Had my first "real" studio session using Bob's DIY light setup. A friend brought her daughter over for a session in her prom dress. I shot a few aluminum plate, then decided to use some "dirty" glass I have had set aside. This glass is new, clean, but old...so it has a dirty look to it. I wanted to use the dirty glass because I was getting really clean images and wanted to "grunge up" the

Yeah Paul, I'm known for that. Funny thing is, I never clean it. I'm just overly careful in pouring stuff. That cloth that's in the darkroom helps too! Are you back in the states or in India?

Funny you say that Ray...Im talking with 2 units about having a fall CoI here on the property. I have almost 6 acres for them to work on formations, camp, etc...including some woods for them to play in. Most of it is pasture. I let my neighbor/cousin keep his sheep on it. He maintains it in return. BTW, there is a winery adjacent to my property too...so the "spirits" are fresh for the troo

Couldnt tell ya...not sure who is actually doing the work. The shop is an industrial repair/contruction place that works on everything from trash trucks, welding on dumptrucks, to drilling out and sleeving a manifold bolt from the head of my jeep (cost $20 btw). Really a dirty, old, nasty place with lots of hard working guys in it. The owner lets the guys do stuff like this on their breaks a

not sure. 2 different jewelers appraised it at $850 and $925. 1 carat of diamonds, a bit over 2 carats of rubies (main stone is right at 1CT). Old, good stones they both said. About 1Ct of deep blue sapphires... Gonna wait to see if I keep it...

Calm down guys.... I have given a description and photos to the police, left notes stating a ring was found (with my own and my wife's contact info) at all the storefronts within 4 blocks of where it was found (basically the entire downtown area) and have notified all the local jewelers in case they recognized it. Based on the condition that the ring was found...it had been there quite a wh

Really off topic...mostly...but I know there are a lot of folks that do a lot of different things when they arent shooting plates...hopefully one of you is a jewelry person! The wife and I found this ring Saturday on a walk to the library...on the edge of the street at the curb... (the one on the right...with my class ring for size comparison) The small, local jeweler checked it ou

My mom just turned 62. They did like Harry recommended...snip test first, then developed. They do dip/dunk processing... Goo

How would focus work? Would you be able to have the ground glass and plate register together at focus? I have an idea of how you could do it. I'll email it to you after this long meeting I'm in is over.

you have mentioned streak-free a couple of times....dont use it. It leaves a residue on the glass, much like windex. I think if you simplify things down a bit you will be much better off, and might be able to eliminate the issue a bit quicker. You are currently using the following: "I clean glass with soap+water, rinse with distilled, hit it with Windex (sometimes) and polish the glass va

Selling my darkroom cart. Plate by Harry Taylor Up top is 2-sided: Top Side 1: Darkroom (with cloth) is 24X24X12. I set it up with Full Plate baths but shot 1/2 plates in it. I didnt mind the size, but it is probably too small for most if shooting full plates. 1/2 plate setup would be perfect for this darkroom. Darkroom has a drop front for more workspace. Cloth is stapled
