Really off topic...mostly...but I know there are a lot of folks that do a lot of different things when they arent shooting plates...hopefully one of you is a jewelry person!

The wife and I found this ring Saturday on a walk to the library...on the edge of the street at the curb...

(the one on the right...with my class ring for size comparison)

The small, local jeweler checked it out...its real...and decently old. Real rubies, diamonds, and dark blue sapphires (almost black)...he said the stones were nice. 10K band with 14K mount. Can't offer what its worth as he doesnt think he can sell it quickly...or he would simply scrap it.

Anyway...we are thinking of selling it (whole)...anyone have any connections, or anyone here play with jewelry selling that could give some advice on selling it.

Craigslist wont work (I dont think), and the local pawn shops probably wouldnt give a decent scrap value on it.

Or...Im looking a 1/2 plate or 5X7 sized camera/kit if anyone wants to trade.

Why not bringing it to the police instead selling something you found.
I am sure there is somebody out there who would be very happy getting it back

Or run a newspaper ad in lost and found. Usually they are free. Don't describe it in detail so they have to tell u what it looks like.

Calm down guys....

I have given a description and photos to the police, left notes stating a ring was found (with my own and my wife's contact info) at all the storefronts within 4 blocks of where it was found (basically the entire downtown area) and have notified all the local jewelers in case they recognized it.

Based on the condition that the ring was found...it had been there quite a while.

I went to the jeweler to see if it was even real...it was that "ugly". I asked and was told at the police station that it was mine to do as I wanted (no reports of stolen/lost rings matching description). So Im giving it a month to see if anyone claims it, if not...probably gonna sell it. The wife doesnt want it, and the money would probably go into our kids' savings accounts.

By the way...for perspective...for those of you that metal detect...do you guys post fliers, stop by the police station, or contact local jewelers every time you find a ring/button/coin/nail that you find at playgrounds, beaches, fields, etc? Probably not.

I think Ive gone above and beyond in trying to get the ring back to its owner...but if its not claimed...legally, its mine.

not sure.

2 different jewelers appraised it at $850 and $925. 1 carat of diamonds, a bit over 2 carats of rubies (main stone is right at 1CT). Old, good stones they both said. About 1Ct of deep blue sapphires...

Gonna wait to see if I keep it...
