Ooooh! Pretty. What dates would this cover? I am woefully ignorant on stuff like this. 1870s?
cheers,

1870's would be my guess too...It's a very sturdy rack. Great for large and small plates. Thanks to Jody Dole and Jesse Mata for the image below.

Phillips head screws?

not to nitpick, but....these were invented to speed up production on the cadillac assembly line in 1922.

a little detail like this would be something so easy to change, and add a more authentic touch to the rack. the beautiful rack BTW.

I package them with both slotted and phillips screws, what century you choose to operate in is entirely your choice.....interesting fact about the phillips head screw anyway, thanks for sharing that Ray.

The plate holder from Claude fits right into the 19th century studio.
the plates in the rack are 10x12 14x14 and 24x24.

I gave Claude the vintage rack from which he cast this reproduction. It had never been used and was still in the original shipping box. Responding to what Ray said about the screws...I think the rack actually dated to the late 1920s. Anyway...as they say..."nice rack."

Huh I had no idea it was anywhere that recent. Looks very 1870s in its iron useage.

Now can you make me the thingy that supports the legs and holds the central post on a dag era tripod??

Hey Ray,

Yes, they made these cast iron end racks all the way up into the 1950s. Kodak still made glass plates for T-Max emulsions until a few years ago. They were specifically for scientific use and, the most bizarre of all, the Tokyo police for photographing traffic accidents!

That center casting for daguerreotype camera stands look like a difficult casting. Plenty of wood turned examples.

My eyes went right to the phillips head screws too. But, I didnt say anything because I know a lot of people will want these not because they look period but because of their functionality.
