Leaving plates in water

If one is shooting on location, after fixing, how long can you reasonably leave plates in water?

all day.
but, too many in one tub can make for a trajedy when they all slip and fall; had it happen more than once.
Just pull some out every so often and put them on a drying rack, then you can varnish at the end of the day.

Overnight and then some. Ive left reject plates in water for days
