First Ambrotype of Spring...

Shot my first portrait ambrotype of the spring this afternoon and have to say I am somewhat pleased. 1/6 plate with 6 second exposure under medium light using a Darlot portrait lens. Made the rookie mistake of lining up for a 1/4 plate and then shot a 1/6th plate. The excitement of the shot got the better of me.

Happy Easter to all!

Thanks, Bob!

Ray certainly did his job well when he did a workshop with me 10 years ago. I could still hear his voice in my head as I was mixing chem and pouring that plate. He made me a new dag camera last summer with a matching dag tripod for it. Picked up a large Darlot portrait lens that is really fast.

I am just finishing up a dark wagon and set up a studio at Grand Hotel here on Mackinac Island. It is nice to be back in the saddle again.

Post pics and update us on your studio. That sounds really nice!

Here is a current pic of the lab. I will post a pic of the wagon once we are finished painting.
