Ordered chem from Mike Jacobson last week but he is no longer selling ether. He suggested Chemsavers for ether. Is anybody using a different supplier than Chemsavers?
I've done ok without ether till this last weekend. Went to pour a plate and the collodion plopped out like goo. I had used up my 190 proof making a batch of collodion and developer so i had to run out to the hardware store for some denatured a. It made it work but I was suprised by how much I had to put in. Collodion may be s but old and I'm wondering if 99% humidity had anything to do with it. Even when it works I don't like not adding ether. The collodion is just way to thick. Try Clarkson Labs in CA.
I do not use ether any more. I found out that if it sits around too long, like plain collodion, it breaks down and over ripens too quickly due to the acid build up in the ether.
Now it's just plain old denatured alcohol, no problems. I do still use the everclear for the part "A" to disolve the iodide and bromide due to its water content. The collodion seems to be keeping it's color and lasting longer too.
