Good day, Im not new too photography, been an amature photographer for over 30 years but now I have found that I would like too enjoy the true roots of being a photographer in wet plate. Ive been researching wet plate with John Coffer and Rob Szabo sites. John Coffers Tin plate cd gave me the basics of being able to continue on. I will be building my first camera from the instructions book written by Otto Dippold. Have a couple of lens. As many of you have found hard too purchase a few of the chemicals. 190 proff grain acohol and ether. I will be enjoying corresponding with all of you in improving the technique of wet plate.

Chemsavers will sell ether and cyanide, although they stated recently they will stop stocking the cyanide, they will still obtain it and fill orders in the future. It's expensive to ship, even with free shipping since its about $25 to package it, and UPS charges $25 hazmat handling fee. Last time I ordered some, it was $100 for 500 grams, plus the $50. Since then, I have stocked up at John Coffer's (he only sells on site, no shipping). ArtCraft chemicals will sell ether, but not cyanide. Mike doesn't list it on his site, so you'll have to call, and convice him you're a wet plater and not a meth addict.

Most chemical companies will not ship this stuff to a residence, and will only take a corporate credit card.

In New England, about the only place for grain alchohol is connecticutt. In NH, you can't even get it shipped in. Other states allow it to be imported, or you can get a permit from the state alchohol board.
I don't know where you're located, but a friend or family member living in a 190 proof state could probably get it for you.

I am sorry to report, the state of New Hampshire has joined the list of states that banned grain.(I still can't believe it)
You can add rhode island to the list of states that sell it.
bought some in RI just the other day.
