cast iron base

The birth of my posing stand- cast iron base. We poured 3 molds the other night that will make up my stand.
I found another process that is just as rewarding as wet-plate and is shared with some passionate people. Even a pumpkin got a little hot molten iron!

It's not an official foundry. A backyard one. We used a furnace that 3 sculpture grad students built. Had to go hit up some farmer friends to donate some cast iron bathtubs and sinks from their junk piles. Cast iron is getting pretty scarce. After a few days of swinging sledge hammers, we fired up the furnace to about 2500 degrees F. It was a lot of work, but fun.

Still have to clean it up. Will post some photos once I get it together.
