I know there are only very few of us. But, I found a very economic supplier of tin in small qtys. Pie Safe Tin These guys sell the pie safe tin in 10x14 sheets for $2.40 each. If you use Country Accents (piercedtin.com), then the price for 10x14 is $4.30. Now the Country Accents guys may be your cup of tea if you have them also cut to size for you, but I am way too cheap for that. So, if you cut your own tin, check out the Kennedy guys. It is nice tin, I just japanned some this week. My guess is that is about .012 thickness.

McMaster-Carr also has the cold rolled sheet steel for a good price, but it always rusted on me before I could get to japan it. The tin plate doesn't rust.

How thick is this tin Ty? Ive used very thin shim stock lately and like the thin stock but would rather use tin if I can get it real thin.

Bob, it is a thicker tin. The thickness is .012 or close. I was using .008 thickness tin, which was a thin stuff about like a lot of the originals. This may compare to the very first neff ferrotype plates. Shoot me your mailing address and I can send out a scrap piece to you.
