Finally got to shoot some plates!

I finally got to shoot a few plates yesterday. The ugly weather cleared out for the afternoon and I got to get some shots of my wife's "German Exchange Brother" as she calls him. He just got married back in July and was up visiting from Louisiana.

Overcast/shade lighting seems to be my favorite...if only the Oaks in my yard would bloom there would be more shade! The half plate of the two sitting on the stools looks kinda harsh. The sun went behind a cloud for one of the shots and it was the best one of the day.

The collodion I'm using is Coffer's Old Reliable that I mixed back in June...I think this was the last time I'll use that mix. Time to make up a new batch. I tried to wipe some oyster staining off the bottom edge of a plate and it kinda smeared the emulsion around...wasn't the plastic like film of newly mixed collodion. Sensitivity has dropped off quite a bit too. I usually get exposure of 1-2 seconds in the shade and I was getting 5-6 seconds on these (which I like!). I also got some weird black comets too...I think there was some dust on that plate that I didn't see though because it didn't show up on my other plates.

Oh yeah, the pump house is a quarter plate ambro on black glass. The the others are tins, the first being a quarter plate and the other being half plate. I didn't make these tins either...I got them with the 10x12 camera that I purchased awhile back. They were made by Tim Merrite. Nice stuff!
