First of all, just to alleviate confusion, a size 22 (1/4)" is a hat size 7 1/8. A 7 1/4 hat size is 22 1/2". I hope this helps clarify things. So the gentleman asking about a 7 3/8 would want the hat stretched 2 sizes to fit.

Secondly, I have a question. What was the original size of the hat?

Thanks for your help.
