That is most definitely the biggest difference between us and them. Given the same choices, most soldiers would have opted to be "somewhere warm and dry enjoying bbq, pie, and beer."

Herr Schmidt - One does not attempt to put it on a scale as there can be no comparison. What I was saying is the physical details of the five senses can bring us much closer to understanding an event than the use of imagination alone.

I am sorry for your loss. My mother just recently died. Death sucks. Especially for those who are left behind to wait and wonder.
