    Someone needs to mention period music. That would be me.

    Always thought the Smithsonian's Stephen Foster album the very best example of period music we have. Of course, it's refined, not raucous. For that, I like Professor Tuckahoe's Dan Emmett tape, and all the others he did. He was doing the minstrel music before anyone else. I remember the epiphany of hearing it for the fist time.
