Default Confederate White House To Close ...

for Repairs only. While this is most likely outdated, I found it on another board and wanted to share.

Confederate White House closing for repairs

    From NBC12 News

The White House of the Confederacy will soon close for two months while crews work on restoring the museum in downtown Richmond. The executive mansion of Confederacy President Jefferson Davis will be closed in January and February.

During that time, the museum will get new carpets, draperies and a new fire-suppression system. The museum will reopen for daily tours in March.

I haven't been there since the 90s. I did enjoy the tour and the exhibits at the MOC.

Sadly, I had no idea till I began Reenacting, that it even existed. So, my plan is to visit this Spring. I can't wait.

I've lived in this area now for 9 yrs and not once considered spending time in Richmond for any historical value add.

Whew! When I saw the title my first thought was "OH S**T! They're gonna turn it into a halfway house for crack addicts from the ghetto!" I'm glad it is only a remodel though. Had me concerned for a moment there.

Bo, my deep apologies. I didn't mean to scare you or anything. I used the same title I first saw the article with.

Yes, there has been much talk of closing the Confederate White House and the Museum all together. I've read several stories over the past year about it. It's sad to see a Community and Local Government let a HUGE portion of their History and Heritage close.

As soon as it re-opens, I'll be visiting and trying to take a bunch of friends with me.

Thats quite alright M'Dear. No appologies are necessary. If I lived closer I would be there often. Supporting our heritage is getting harder as those PC folks get more numerous and we get fewer.

Here in Mo. one of our state rep's. is trying again to get a bill through to restore the Stars and Bars and Missourah battle flag to our two greatest Confederate historical sites. I am going to post more on this in the proper thread when all the details are in.

I was very disappointed when I first visited the WHoC. I expected to see Jeff's petticoats on display but they aren't there.

"...I'm struck by the contradiction at the core of Civil War reenacting. On the surface it's a hyper-macho hobby, focused on guns and battle. But the longer I hang out with hardcores ... the more they remind me of supermodels, chatting endlessly about their jackets and shoes and hair and how many pounds they've lost since the last event." - Tony Horwitz
