    Hallo!

"And, someone besides me recognizes the 19th century use of the word 'Receipt.'"

    My grandmother (1906-1977) used "receipt."

Not a real Civil War reenactor, I only portray one on boards and fora.
I do not portray a Civil War soldier, I merely interpret one.

I think cassowaries are way overrepresented in the hobby. Passerines are way more PEC.

My vote goes to the collared lizards used in 1950s-1960s sci-fi movies.

...you end up with Outpost 2007, which featured one handed mounted cav carbine firing whilst on the move...a CSA cav charge against an inf company that resulted in some captured feds (and we didn't even get to eat the presumably shredded horses)...company's manuevering as seperate battalions...a waste of ammo powder burning night fight. - RJ

Can't argue with that in a modern sense, but in the Civil War a "receipt" was how "recipe" is spelled today, so yes, Grumpy was correct in a reenactor-speaking type of way.

And he has an incorrect number of stitches per inch.

We won't even talk about the anachronistic materials and construction methods.

That's understandable, but wasn't the original post mocking noob reenactors? So unless they are historical language majors they wouldn't know that word is the correct usage for the time period.

So now you want to actually have instruction and redeeming social value here! Next thing you know, reenactors will be showing signs of improved impressions, book learnin', and bugle/drum call recognition. Oh, the horror of it all!!!!!!!
