    Default Period Stethoscope

Does anyone know of where I can find or, who makes reproductions of period monaural stethoscopes? Thanks.

How about plans/dimensions for wooden ones? I'm thinking my father-in-law could turn one out for me on his lathe. I just saw a replica STETHOSCOPE, MONAURAL, LAENNECK TYPE one http://steinmed.net/Z2177.htm for $450. Perhaps a fair price, but way out of my range. My F-I-L has mad skills and could do this if he is of the mind to do so. I'd gladly take a STETHOSCOPE, MONAURAL, but he'll want detailed plans ....

Steinmed sells some good originals that allow you to put the tube horizontally or vertically into the large end.

    Default Which end where?

Which end goes to the ear and which end goes to a patient's chest?

My F-I-L has turned me a couple different versions of these.

Large end on the patient's thoracic area, small end to your ear.

Thank you. This is what I gathered from a few of the places Googled that mentioned anything about use, but it was never 100% clear.

It makes a good percussive instrument to tap the chest and the back to detect the ominous sound of fluid-filled lungs of pneumonia.
