Outstanding sack coat for sale!
Size #3 (will fit a 40-42 regular or possibly long coat size).
100% Handsewn-no machine work anywhere! Made from County Cloth (Charlie Childs) sack coat wool flannel. Made from a Charlie Childs pattern. Sewn with logwood dyed linen thread & finished with military warehouse eagle buttons.
Sack Coat is unlined, all seams are felled, facings are pieced, pocket is constructed of a contrasting piece of wool flannel (obtained from Skillet Licker). Pocket is marked with 3 dots indicating its size.
In addition to the pattern instructions, this coat was finished based on the details of the coat shown in "figure 4" of Paul McKee's article "Notes on the Federal Issue Sack Coat," appearing in the Journal of the Company of Military Historians.
This is an absolutely authentic sack coat appropriate for use in any scenario, in any theater from 1861 - 1865 (unlike the more commonly encountered J.T. Martin Sack Coats based on surviving examples from an 1864 contract).
Asking $350 (negotiable) - which is much less than any authentic maker is charging for a 100% handsewn sack coat. I hate to part with this coat, I made it for myself - sewing in small spurts, to decompress while deployed in Iraq; but it's just too big for me. My loss is your gain. Coat has never been worn in the field - only tried on.
I pay shipping anywhere in the continental U.S. Due to the cost, I will allow a 2 week inspection period; buy it, try it on, show it to your pards, if it doesn't pass muster send it back - no questions asked. Payment accepted by check or money order.
