Living historians and likeminded fellows:

The 33rd Alabama Infantry seeks enthusiastic recruits, fresh fish and grizzled veterans to join our ranks.
The 33rd. Ala. is a progressive unit seeking to represent CW history with accurate uniforms, equipment and camp impression. We are not a so-called "family-oriented unit". We love our families,but they won't be running about the camp. We seek to maintain a military impression.
The 33rd is basically located in the Birmingham/Montgomery, Alabama area.
The 33rd attends between 8-10 events as a unit annually.
When required, the 33rd galvanizes as the 6th Indiana Infantry.
Guitarist, banjo-pickers and fiddlers are welcome.

Dear Captain Redd ,
1. What 2007 events are the 33rd attending ?
2. Is single malt Scotch or "Old Crow " preferable ?
3. In terms of equal opportunity are Yankees welcome ?
4. Is the "Useless Mess " based on merit or length of service ?

In my humble opinion the 33rd is one of the friendliest units in the country and have many fine reenactors (and singers ; pickers ) , amongst the rank and file . I would encourage any history minded reenactor to contact them.

Mr. Corbett, I had recently jacked up the good Capt about the missing 2007 schedule, since we in the Winston Free-State like to wave from a distance as they march by.

These fellers are not the keyboard campaigner types--they are so often in the field, they sometimes neglect their internet presence.

The "Useless Mess" is based on merit, length of service, ability to cook, and willingness to lay down the weapon and pick up the spoon in a period correct manner. Since this is truely a 'soldiers only' unit, there are no women folk lurking in the background cooking and such(nor cluttering up the company street)---the 33rd does their own work.

The ability to remember words to period songs carries a good deal of weight as well.

Singular as well is the wide age range of the members--from the rankest fresh faced recruits to men who saw real service in WWII (and if anyone thinks those particular members don't drill and march and fight with the rest, hide, watch, and be astounded)

They field an equally impressive Federal impression, along with their companion unit, the 19th Alabama. You'll find that Yankees of your calibur are most certainly welcome---a number of these men are former military professionals.

Don't loose sight of the fact that Southwest Airlines makes it easy and relatively painless to get to events in this part of the country........
