Default WTB - 9' Wedge Tent

My nephews and I are planning on spending more'n a few nights in the bush this season and Grandma is tired of seein' them boys sleepin' under the stars. No more Campaign Style for US. We need a 9' A-Frame Wedge Tent and all of the pertinent essentials to go with it.

If'n you've got one that is slightly used, I'd appreciate a good deal on it.

If not, a pointer to a NIB good'n would be just as nice.

Thankya for your attention to this matter.

P.S. We don't care if'n it has bullet holes and says "US" on it. Heck, that'd probably be more authentic anyway. That's how Pap got his.

    Default Fall Creek

I checked most of the sutlers a few years ago and Fall Creek had the best prices then.

    Sir John,

Yakima does seem to have the one closest to period miltary specs---be very specific with them, as they make other styles of canvas A tents.

If time and the purse allows, hold out for a 2 door A. That version will give you far more versatility in the field, allowing for ventilation and a variety of set up configurations. We've slept 8 women under a 2 door A in light rain.

Your mileage will most certainly vary, as we are all pretty short

    Default Tent for Sale

One of the gals in our group, who is not a member of this Forum, has a tent that might do for you. I believe the maker is Fall Creek, 9', double door. I'm checking to see if her price includes the poles and such. I'll PM you with her price and email addy.

I second Yakima - tell them you want the 1864 QM specs (no real changes from the previous version) without brass grommets (brass grommets did not exist for the wartime versions - sewn grommets only). They will make it the correct size, with the tabling and sod cloth correctly done. The Army wedge or "common" tent only had one opening, but you can pull up the sod cloth to get a little ventilation.

Unfortunately, the many thousands of these tents that survived the war were sent out to the plains and not one survives so far as is known.

If ventilation and flexibility is a concern - suggest perhaps a tent fly instead. These were actually issued to both sides and are simple to put up in a variety of ways, weigh little compared to the wedge tent, and are authentic. You can build them close to the ground in the cold and rain, or higher for warm nights. Or if you could not be bothered, just toss the thing over everybody (or under and around) and you are good to go. Our company had one for BGR and we could put it up and take it down in short order, tossing it in the wagon before the march. But in a pinch it could be carried in a short roll configuation.

    Happy slumbers.

    Default Tent for Sale

Her price of $150 does not include the poles (she has already disposed of those) but does include shipping.

P.S. This tent does not have "farbilicious" (her word) brass grommets...
