There was a very particular tricorne hat worn during the Civil War referred to as the "Purves" hat. You might research along that trail as well. I think "Dirty Billy's" used to make one, if you wanted to see what one looks like. Clearly early war usage. There are some Osprey booklets that cover Confederate troops from different States. These booklets are fairly short and gloss over many details but they do have very good color plates. The booklet covering Mississippi and Louisiana troops would show you what you want to see regarding tricorne hats. Might check Amazon.com for the best prices.
