Default CWRAC seek participants for No Casino march

On the heels of the good news from the Pennsylvania House, the Civil War Reenactor Advisory Committee is interested in rallying reenactors to take part in the march to the State House in Harrisburg, scheduled on April 29, 2006.

Efforts to have the dates of the march changed to avoid the conflict with the annual Neshaminy event were met with resistance.

The council would like to offer a "home base" for anyone who would like to take part in the "march" (apparently only a couple of city blocks).

Anyone interested in attending with the council, please contact me at dustyswb@comcast.net and we will get you further information.

Please dessiminate this information to all reenactors that you know.

    Gee, I wonder why?

Dusty, I would love to join in the march, but this date is the same one as our 'Adopt a Position' work day on the Delaware monuments at Gettysburg. If this changes I will contact you, in the meantime I will cascade this information down to my fellow reenactors.

    Default No Casino March CANCELLED

Friends, the planned No Casino Gettysburg Heritage March on the Capital in Harrisburg to protest a casino placed in Gettysburg is being cancelled. Since we set the date, The Gaming Control Board has set 3 dates for our public hearings: April 5 in Gettysburg, April 7 in Harrisburg, and May 17 in Gettysburg. The latter two were only scheduled this week.
Preparing for these and additional local government hearings, and lobbying the Senate to pass the Maitland Amendment barring a casino near hallowed ground is consuming all of our time. We have decided to cancel the March, as well as the encampment at The National Civil War Museum, scheduled for April 28, 29 and 30.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause to those who have made their travel plans.

The March has been advertised in several Civil War Magazines and by word of mouth. Please help us notify our entire network about this change.

We are deeply grateful to Mayor Reed and the City of Harrisburg for their help in organizing this event. We also thank the Civil War Preservation Trust, and the National Parks Conservation Association, for helping us plan what would likely have been a unique event.

Please continue to keep our cause of preserving heritage and community in your hearts.
