Their slab bacon is the gold standard by which all others are measured. Nice folks. Good product. Timely shipped. You cannot go wrong with Scott Hams.
So would a soldier be issued a slab of bacon like this, or a portion of it, and they just carried it around in their haversack, to cook as needed? Did they slice pieces off and fry it, like we do with bacon today?
