Default Ohio Leadership Conference, October 27, 2012

    All,

Just wanted to get this back in front of you while there is still time to register. This event is for anyone who wants to have an impact on Ohio reenacting going forward. We'll model the day after the BGA National Conferences. Social hour at 8:30, introductions, some of the larger events in Ohio will present to all, lunch together on site, talk about insurance, break out sessions for the branches and civilians, town hall meeting and more. Want to start to talk about what the post 150 landscape will look like in Ohio and nationally. The time to plan for that is now, in a proactive manner as opposed to later when it's too late!

There has been a lot of enthusiasm for this for sure. Please get your registrations in so we can plan food etc. You can see more details here: http://www.armyoftheohio.com/aoonews.html

Or you can email be at bminton@embarqmail.com for more specifics and a registrationf form. We are on facebook as well under: Ohio Civil War Reenactor Leadership Conference.

Hope to see many of you there!

OHIO CIVIL WAR REENACTORS CONFERENCE HELD OCTOBER 27

Columbus, Ohio – The Army of the Ohio and 2nd Battalion, Birney’s Division hosted the inaugural Ohio Civil War Reenactors Conference on October 27 at Ohio Village in Columbus. Over eighty reenactors from across the state of all branches, civilian and military, attended the daylong event that’s goal was to strengthen the hobby in the state.

“Simply amazed, I could have never imagined that we would get the response that we did.” said Bob Minton, commander of the Army of the Ohio. “We had representatives from every major organization in the state, the Army of the Ohio, 2d Battalion, Birney’s Division, United States Volunteers, Army of the Shenandoah, 7th Battalion, Army of Northern Virginia, Medich’s Battalion, Valley Division the Independent Guard as well as a number of independent companies and individuals.

The daylong conference focused on looking forward and better communication among the many groups. “Communication, education and leadership are the three main goals we want to focus on going forward,” said Minton.

Event coordinators had the opportunity to present their event and ideas were exchanged on how to avoid multiple events on the same weekend. Minton said one of the proposals was to have a calendar of state, regional and national events that event hosts and reenactors can check dates against, “not just for this year but next year and 2 and 3 years out, that way when an event host approaches you about adding an event, you can sit down with them a find the best possible weekend and make it a quality event that the maximum amount of reenactors can attend.”

Minton added that the feedback he received was positive and that the majority of those in attendance felt an annual conference of this type would be beneficial, but said no plans for a formal organization or alliance are in the works. “We are going to focus on communication right now and sharing information, knowledge and best practices.”

Information from the conference is being shared at the Ohio Civil War Reenactors Conference Facebook page. Additionally, the civilian component of the conference created a Facebook group titled Ohio Civilian Network - American Civil War Reenactors as an outlet for sharing information.

Looking forward to this. Last year's conference went very well.

I don't think anyone would mind if folks from outside the borders want to check it out too.
