RJ, we created the Iron Brigade Guard at the 135th Gettysburg. It was composed of two men from each of the 16 companies that were in the brigade. Sorry you missed it. Maybe we can do it again, next year.

I was with you all at G135 but you are correct, I missed the forming of the guard.....for the 1st day battle I fought with the cavalry until they left the field....then joined up with my 2nd Wis Co. K who were doing a 24th MI impression that day.....never saw the 6th WVI\IB Guard impression on the field.

Things are moving forward and people are starting to register. Thanks to everyone and keep them coming in.

Dear Sir,
Re: "No bugler"
Would not this be listed on the regimental rosters?
all for the old flag,
David Corbett
Not always....so the evidence of absence doesn't always equal the absence of evidence.....plenty of company rosters list Musician's.....some of whom might be buglers....and when the 2nd WVI sent home their brass band they grabbed another couple of fine musician's from the ranks for the Brigade band.....so it's not like the Iron Brigade didn't have brass capable musician's.....we simply don't read of any use of bugler's in the regiment's\brigade......although there are numerous references to drums and field musics.....and no listed bugler's..... the one exception is the 24th MI bugler who was left in Detroit....and of course the Regular Army artillery bugler's in the 4th US Battery B including Johnny Cook.

Dave,
We've searched high and low for any evidence of buglers in the Wisconsin Iron Brigade regiments and have nothing to substantiate it. As R.J. pointed out we know who the field musicians were and the members of IB band that came from the original regiments, but nothing that even mentions a bugler directly. It was always a disappointment in my early reenacting that as a brass player, that I could not potray an actual bugler by name.
