DC Area ACW Classes
Dear Friends,
Arlington County Adult Ed once again offers three of my classes related to the Civil War and Civil War reenacting.
For those who wonder just what in the world reenactors do – and why – there’s “Civil War Reenacting – Behind the Curtain” on Wednesday evening September 12, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in room 308 of the Clarendon Education Center, 2801 Clarendon Boulevard. Apart from a basic $5 registration fee there's no charge for this class:

The County also offers a two-hour class Wednesday evening, October 24, from 7-9 in room 309 of the Education Center, on “The Battle of Washington” – a case study in “leading from the middle.” In July 1864 only a ragtag group of raw recruits, disabled veterans, and government employees stood between a veteran Confederate army and the nation's capital, and no single person commanded them. Find out how a group of mid-level officers and officials, each acting largely on their own initiative, saved the day:

My last class, called “Managing the Civil War,” discusses how both sides managed to pay, feed, equip, and run their vast armies using only the technology of the time. If you’ve ever wondered how these organizations worked, you’ll find it interesting – hopefully it will put your own office’s problems in a different light. This class runs on two Wednesday evenings, November 7 and November 14, again from 7-9 in room 309 of the Clarendon Center:

Thank you for your time and please feel free to contact me at m.a.schaffner@comcast.net with any questions. If you’re not interested in any of these but think you know someone else who might be, I’d appreciate you passing the info on. Thanks!
Yours,
Michael S.
