Jas, I believe the "howitzers" listed were the larger 12pd Field Howitzers" not the smaller shorter range "Mountain" variety.

The reenacting community seems to be aplenty of the mountain howitzers and I had read somewhere that Lee had some at Gettysburg. The data I see show he does. My quiree would be why a lot of events do not want them and only cannon with the 57" diameter wheels? I see that the howitzers have smaller diameter wheels and if they were at Gettysburg would the accurate reproductions be welcomed at either the GAC or BGA events?

I remember seeing some nice bronze examples at the 145th Manassas but do not recall seeing them at the 145th Gettysburg.

    Thanks again.

There's quite a big difference between a Howitzer and a Mountain howitzer. Really, look it up.

Weren't there a couple of CSA 6lb batteries.....they were going to be brought up to assist Pickett on the 3rd for close support?

    RJ,

I believe those were supposed to be 12lb Howitzers, not 6lb field guns, the ANV only had one 6lb'er left, and it was in a NC battery over on the Confederate far right. Now out west there were plenty of 6lb'ers left.

OK I'll reread the sources and identify the batteries in question, I did see the ONE (1) 6lb-er in the list.....

    Great stuff, thanks for posting!
