For sale is a one of a kind custom made Civilian/Confederate greatcoat that will work from the late 1850's up through the early 1890's. I had this made especially for me from this pattern:
http://www.atlantahi...tterns/319.html (scroll down to the greatcoat) which is taken from an original in the Atlanta Historical Society. Coat is as authentic as it can be, even has reproduction gutta percha buttons to fasten it.
Constructed of a Chocolate Brown Wool, with a French blue wool lining on the underside of the cape, inside is lined a heavy striped cotton ticking. Lined top to bottom, sleeves as well!
This coat is heavy, I'd say somewhere between 8 & 10 lbs, and will keep even the most cold blooded person warm on a cold winters day or night. Used very little but does have 3 small issues that need to be mentioned...First- One of the buttons on the belt has come off and I can not find it, a replacement can be purchased from Blockade Runner in Tenn. for a dollar or two...Second- The lining in one of the hand pockets has come away from the wool body, a quick five minute fix if your handy with a needle and thread...Third- The cape is attached with three buttons, but after wearing it a time or two I came to realize that it weighs so much it did not want to stay on the coat, so I had plans on adding a hook and eye on either side close to the collar but never got around to it. Another five minute sewing job and the issue is taken care of!. None of these are major flaws, but they did need to be addressed!
Casey Osgood is the maker of this greatcoat and it cost me a small fortune when it was made, but have decided to move it on to someone else who will appreciate it as much as I. I am asking $400.00 + shipping (which I'm gonna guess will run somewhere in the $30+ range due to the weight). Please feel free to make an offer, but for what it is I think I'm asking a fair price........... I am 6'2, 215 lbs and can wear this over a period suit or uniform with no problems!
