Default Two Gettysburgs! I knowed it! I knowed it would happen!

Well, I'm sure many of you got the letter today same as me! BGA Gettysburg the weekend before the Gettysburg Gettysburg. Looks like that closed thread was on to something!

And I expect I will get sucked into the BGA one. Humm.....40,000 + at BGA, 300 at GAC! Ha HA! Oh the wonderment of it all!

Here's the letter in case ya'll don't believe it!:

Greetings All Battery Commanders and Brothers of the Long Arm,

The received correspondences are as follows:

From Col. K. C. Meadows, Sr:

    Gentlemen,

I have the privilege and honor to announce to you the 150th Gettysburg reenactment put on by the Blue-Gray alliance. This event will be held June 27-30, 2013 at the Bushey farm, in historic Gettysburg PA. This was the site of the 135th Gettysburg, a national event that all remember. On this pristine and beautiful ground, we will reenact history as it occurred on those fateful days in 1863. Be prepared for hard fighting, tacticals, and an event to remember. You will share this memory with your family and friends for years to come. This will be a mainstream event which will be campaigner friendly and also friendly to the spectator. I shall continue to update you as plans unfold. I ask for your support, as we move forward to establish this event. This is unique in that it is an event by reenactors for reenactors.

    Your obedient servant,

    Col. K. C. Meadows, SR.

    From Col. Mark Way:
This will serve as formal announcement that the Blue Gray Alliance will host a 150th Anniversary Battle of Gettysburg Reenactment. The event will be held June 27 through June 30, 2013. The land leases are currently being inked and more information will be released shortly on the location and other amenities. We are working on the details as we speak and will release that information as time goes on.

What we are striving to accomplish by hosting a 150th Anniversary Battle of Gettysburg is:
    1. To provide a more reenactor friendly environment while at the event.
    2. To provide more historically accurate scenarios.
    3. To provide an outlet for all facets of reenacting, from civilian to military, to participate in the event.
    4. To focus the scope of the reenactment on the actual historical facts of this battle rather than on the spectators who come to view it.
    5. To focus the prime needs and goals of the event on the reenactor base thereby providing a more fulfilling event weekend for the individual reenactor.

This is and will be an ambitious and taxing endeavor to which many of the member organizations of the Blue Gray Alliance have devoted themselves. We have all agreed to work together to pursue a common goal, a Gettysburg reenactment by reenactors for reenactors.

This event will function like other Blue Gray Alliance events have in the past. We have a place for all facets of reenacting from campaigner to mainstream and family garrison to authentic civilian. We used this model at the 150th Anniversary Battle of Shiloh and it showed good results.

As I said earlier, we should be finalizing all of the necessary items regarding the land lease over the next few days. We believe that the land is entirely suitable for this event and lends itself to being able to recreate several of the vingettes of the original battle through use of similar terrain.

Registration for the event will be $20 per person with children under 14 attending free. A web site is under construction and will include a registration link shortly. This information will be passed on to everyone as soon as it is functional enough to make use of.

The event will take place at the Bushey Farm, 1845 Pumping Station Road, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, site of the 135th Anniversary Event. This event site is well suited for this event and will give us the opportunity to recreate some of the battles of Gettysburg with good historical accuracy.

The commanders for this event have yet to be decided and the information on this will be released shortly.

We hope that you all will join us in making the 150th Anniversary Gettysburg one to remember.

As additional information is received, including registration, bounty, command structure, and event rules, this command will be sure to inform you in a most timely fashion. Also, more information may become available on the Battalion web site (Alexandersbattalion.com), the Corps web site (Longstreetscorps.com), or the Blue/Gray Alliance 150th web site, (www.150thcivilwarevents.com).

Commanders: PLEASE FORWARD THIS INFORMATION ON TO YOUR BATTERIES. I invite anyone who has questions to pose them and they will be addressed as soon as the answers are known.

Your Obedient Servant in The Cause,

    Brig. Gen. Craig F. McCann

    Default Gettysburg

    Sir,

Do you think many eastern units will skip out on the GAC event for the BGA event. If so what type of numbers would you guess this to be. I am a Westerner coming out to this event and have done numerous BGA events, all good. We are looking to do the best event with the best numbers. What is your thought on this matter or anyone else who would like to post.

    Harry,

Near as I can tell, there are four Gettysburgs, with two major LH at the Park.

The move towards quality opportunities is refreshing.

I would prefer a Gettysburg event which enforced force ratios. I've really come to appreciate this feature.

I'm all for better events, but sorry, this just sounds like a further nail in the coffin of the hobby - I thought the 150th event cycle would breathe new life into the hobby, but its looking like quite the opposite with every large anniversary battle having being split among competing events (who knew that 1st Manassas may have been the apex of the 150th's in terms of numbers)- Bash mega events all you like, but they do draw up hype among those not in the hobby seeing a spectacle which small events just cannot replicate, not to mention multiple events confuse the public.
If everyone would choose to support one superior event then fine, but history shows that that will not happen.

As an aside, the 135th event ground was a great area, though I was under (unfounded apparently) the assumption that it had been partially developed and much different since that event?

Just my thoughts that I am sure most will disagree with on here.

Personally, I hope every unit that can skips the GAC event. These events happen because folks are tired of the bad GAC product. That is all.
