Default Civil War Medical Uniform/tools, ect

    Hello all-

I am new to the civil war reenactment. I have joined the First New Mexico Company B in Arizona. I am going to be serving as the Medical Surgeon of the Company.

I was wondering where is a good place to find a uniform of a medical surgeon and the tools that were used. Ive looked on ebay but things seem a little pricey. What would be a good recommendation to use to just get started. I will not be able to get everything all at once I'll have to gradually add to my persona.

    Thanks

You might want to try the Society of Civil War Surgeons.

Surgeons wore the uniform of a junior grade or senior grade officer depending on their standing. Asst. surgeons wore the rank of Lts and captains, surgeons wore the rank of major. Gathering equipment is going to be pricy regardless of where you get it. Before you focus too much on the equipment you will need to do a fair amount of studying and research if you are going to do it right. I would suggest going through the medical section on this forum and looking at past threads on the subject. Use the search function for specific questions, google will become your friend. If you still can't find the answers there are many on this forum who may assist you.

Thank you for the information. It was after this post that I realized that there was a medical section to it. I found great info there!

    Thanks,
