    Default epaulette question....

I am putting together an RD2 and have gotten to the epaulettes...I collowed the pattern so far but they seem way too narrow-2 inches at the largest end...was there some play in the width of these or do most of them start wider?

epaulette.... Phil... I have a W.W.& Co. RD2 , they are 2" tapered to 1 3/4 finished,,,,,also Two other coats from high end Tailors with the same design , one though doesnt taper...ie 2" to 2" so it might be the norm.... I know Ross or Chris Daily will probably jump in on your question..... YHS Paul Lopes

Whose pattern did you follow? I would assume they did something research related when they made it up, you might want to ask them.

i used a pattern that is supossed to be an rd 2 pattern but the epaulettes were wupossed to be turned under 1/4 inch and then top stitched to the jacket-while i have seenthis before on period jackets i always thought that was a commutation/deep south thing...other than that the rest of the jacket had the right details. I cut out 4 epaulettes instead of to and was sewing them together so i could sew one end into the shoulder sleeve seam and then put the buttons on the other end but when i did that they just seemed narrow...period pics dont really show the back of the shoulder too often so its hard to tell from pics
