    Default Western Federal Cavalry Uniform

After a year, a friend talked me into giving CW re-enacting a try. I went to my first event in my home town for "Civil War Days" and had a good time. The people in the troop were friendly and very helpful for this new comer, providing items for me to look the part. There are so many styles of jackets for CW, I am wondering, What style is appropriate for Western Theater Federal Cavalry? I have seen long jackets, short jackets, jackets with gold piping and trim. When I start looking for clothing, I want to get it right. Thanks.

Welcome to reenacting and the forum. As you progress in this hobby you will learn the names of particular garments and you'll be surprised continuously as you research. A short answer to your question is the fatigue blouse (or sack coat as some call it), followed by the mounted services jacket (trimmed or untrimmed short, fitted jacket).
