Write them a letter, George. I just recently had to do that with Civil War Times of all people.
Gotta nip these inaccuracies in the bud!

I was there with the 17th Medical Corps explaining to people how anesthesia was a mainstay and later I walked over to check out the cav surgeon's demonstration. 1st no anesthesia, 2nd the steward ask if he could give laudanum or whiskey and the surgeon said no while the patient has an arm amputation with rad / uln showing and a low moan.
Doc I hope your read this and adjust your impression. You just contradicted everything we have been preaching.

A letter has been sent by a member and I was copied on the reply. The chief curator is turning it over to the two exhibit specialists in charge of that exhibit.
At least they responded

I write about history for people who regret not being there when it happened.

The Presidential Museum at Springfield , Illinois in the Medical exhibit also had a "bit bullet" --- I'm tired of seeing bit bullets. I makes me want to tell curators to bite on one while I poke them with a needle so I can just once see someone try to swallow it or suck it down their windpipe!!!

Well, the problem as I see it is that people are fed this misconception very early. I was giving a presentation at a local school (4th graders) and a question came up about surgery and "putting the soldier out". So I asked them if anyone knew how that was done and a few of the students said, "bite a bullet". I then proceeded to explain why this was wrong and dangerous; even some of the teachers had a surprised look on their faces.
