Default Looking for units in Southern or Central Arkansas, North Texas, or North Louisiana

    Greetings all,

I'm going to be moving to Southern Arkansas (near Hope, Magnolia, and Camden) in the next month or so and will be looking for a unit or a small group of like minded folks with similar ideas and goals in the hobby. I'm looking for progressives and authentics that I can learn from and who will help me expand my knowledge and develop my impression. I AM new to the hobby, but I am full of fire and willing to do what it takes to do it right. I'm not looking for weekend powder burners -- in fact, I'd be content to never fire my weapon or do battle if I could find the right group of people and some decent living history events.

I am mostly interested in the living history aspects of the hobby and look forward to taking part in different types of events that will allow me to educate the public on this important time in our history. I'd be interested in groups that do mostly living history, as well as immersion or semi-immersion events. My ideal group will have some sort of uniform guidelines for impressions to keep the things that don't belong out (we all know what those things are).

Again, I'm new, but eager to learn and improve my impression, knowledge and skills.

I'll be at my new home in Arkansas towards the middle of July, and hopefully settled not too long after that. I'd be willing to travel up to about 3 hours for meetings, drill, etc., which puts my area of interest in the Southern to Central Arkansas, Northern Texas, and Northern Louisiana.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Your most obedient servant,

    Pvt. Eric C. Stuart

    Eric,

Are you looking to join a Federal or Confederate Unit?

I realized I didn't mention that after I posted the inquiry, but figured I'd wait for someone to respond before I cleared that little tidbit up.

I'm looking for a Confederate unit, since that it is main focus of study, but wouldn't be opposed to joining a good Federal unit -- though I'd need some time to acquire the gear, of course.

I'm really only looking for a quality unit with quality human beings who I can participate with for a few quality events and living histories every year.

    Thanks!

I do a federal impression, "Yes, there are Yankees in Arkansas", but will ask around about a "period correct" Confederate unit in Arkansas.

The little group of guys I mess with are what's left of the 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles and 3rd Arkansas Infantry. We are under the 1st Arkansas Battalion and usually try to find larger companies to fall in with. Are you in Arkansas? I just looked up your company website, I recognize some of your guys, especially Steve Shore.

    Marvin,

That is my plan, and I look forward to it! As I believe I told you, I'll be in Arkansas mid July -- we should find some time this Summer or at least by early fall to get together.

    Thanks!
