    Lightbulb Donations

    To All

The Hobby has just finished, with two large reenactments. Shiloh No.1 and Shiloh No. 2. Some in the Hobby most notable, the CPH approach gives a accounting of the Donations. With that said, is it to much to ask the same of others. Need to know or should we know is the question. Large scale Production Companies or Umbrella Organizations? Been to a lot of what are called National Events, never have I seen accounting of anything. Just a thought. Twenty Dollars does not give anyone a leverage position, but when you take into consideration the numbers of Folks times twenty, it adds up.

Although I know there are many people within the hobby who share the desire to see an accounting of how their dollar stacks up at different events, this forum is not the place to seek that information. You are best served by either contacting the events themselves or waiting for that information to come to the units in after action reports or other channels. Many, if not most, event organizers do not frequent this or any other forums, so outside of the esteemed Mr. Anders, you probably won't get accounting answers publicly here. There is a growing trend today for people to attend only events that meet their varying needs, be that authenticity or accounting - one must pick carefully...

I agree------------I have taken that approach on the accounting side of things. Mr. Anders command of Confederate Forces this year at Perryville, Kentucky is a good thing. Others in the Hobby should follow his Lead.

Perryville: 100% of the registration fees will go directly to the preservation and intepritational efforts at the state park. Not one penny will go towards logistics, workers, etc that helped make the event. The state will not get a penny of that either. The state will make their money by charging the public admission. So for the reenactor that wants to know where his/her money goes to at events, in this case a national, there is your answer.
There is a lot of work that needs to be done at the park, especially with the new property obtained recently by the CWT. Property that we will have the opportunity to play on this year that hasn't been touched since the boys did in '62.

Is this the kind of answer you are looking for Doug?

You know it is, all the money over the years. I don't care if its going to a worthy cause---Perryville special place in Kentucky. Others need not apply.

Perryville is one of the precious few sites that has space for large numbers to play, regulations that permit us to do so, basic infrastructure in place to allow that, and state funding undergirding the cash flow requirements needed to contract for sanitation and amenities months before any paying spectator enters the gate.

The countless volunteer efforts in one physical place over many years mount up. The ability to call on State equipment to cut and improve roads is a tremdous savings in event costs over those held on private land. The useage of state employees and local volunteers to prepare the site allows for unusually good site preparation. (I once stopped at Perryville a full week before an event to drop equipment and save a double haul from Alabama--signage was already in place, and we set camp in full confidence we were in the right place)

Enabling all this excellent prep requires a good grasp of the numbers involved. Early registration is vital. I registered for Perryville 2012 in August, 2011. It was easy, quick, and the record is right there in my Paypal history.

Thank you everyone for the compliments....and perhaps if participants hold organizers feet to the fire, information will be out on all events...maybe.

In the end, voting with your feet is the best thing, and as Mrs. Lawson said, registering early helps out a ton! Both for logistical and financial planning....
