Default S. Mtn. Cannon Firing Demo Picts

I was up on South Mountain at Fox's Gap today and came across the folks from the S. Mtn. Battlefield State Park portraying the Jeff Davis Artillery doing a firing demo with their 12 lb Napoleon. This is on part of the original battlefield, which is now privately owned land.

Looking good. Do these fellows portray the JDA regularly, or just for this demonstration?

Can't say, since I'm not associated with them, I just live nearby.

Did you notice the dividers in the limber box? Very cool.

Jeffrey-- since you're enjoying this so much, here are some pictures of them showing the spectators the various implements they use to prepare the cannon for firing. It was a good presentation--they explained what was going on without overdoing it:

This is what confederate artillery should strive to look like.

There's a reason they put cannon on the posters of events.

So true! Here's the website for our town festival--recognize the cannon? Same one in the pictures above. The cannon itself belongs to the State of Maryland Department of Natural Resources and is housed just a few miles down the road. They used to bring it to the festival every year, but not anymore. It was one of the festival's biggest attractions, and of course the crowd loved it.
