    Default 150th Anniversary of Taps

A reminder of an upcoming event celebrating the anniversary of Taps, organized by Jari Villanueva and featuring both the Federal City Brass Band and an array of buglers. The music in itself should make this one to remember. Please register now so we can plan the ration issue. Thanks!

    “Birth of An American Tradition”
    Taps 150

    Harrison’s Landing, Virginia, June 22-24, 2012
    Berkeley Plantation
    12602 Harrison Landing Road,
    Charles City, VA 23030
    http://taps150.org/wp/berkeley-taps
    ——————————————————————————
This event is on the actual ground (Harrison’s Landing) where the Army of the Potomac came to rest following the Seven Days Battle. Reenactors will portray the 83rd PVI, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, 5th Corps, Army of the Potomac in a variety of camp activities, including dress parade, guard mount, drill, and skirmish demonstrations conducted by the bugle. This is a wonderful chance to be part of the commemoration of the tradition of Taps that began at the location.

The area set up for the 83rd PVI is in a large field away from the mansion and surrounded on three sides by trees (the fourth side is the James River). Parking for re-eactors will be in a field a few hundred feet away and concealed by trees.

    Registration and Ranks

Reenactors who register as groups may have one officer for every 15 registrants and one NCO for every 5. Captains and first sergeants are subject to approval by the event organizers depending on how many total registrants we get and how many companies we form.

Individuals registering not as part of a group must do so as privates but can state a preference for higher rank. After registration closes we will form companies and select the leadership cadre according to registrants’ preferences and the needs of the event.

    Authenticity Standards

    Available here: http://taps150.org/wp/berkeley-taps/...or-information

Briefly, enlisted personnel will wear caps, sack coats, sky blue trowsers, government brogans, and period shirts (issue preferred). Weapons must pass safety check at registration. 1861 Springfield rifle-muskets preferred; Enfields or 1855 & 1863 Springfields accepted; bayonets required. Bring full accouterments with polished plates and buckels, painted haversack, knapsack, issue blanket, and smoothside canteens. Please avoid brass keepers, 7-rivet scabbards, bullseye canteens, hat brass, and any non-issued badges (e.g., harps, thistles, masonic emblems, deer tails, feathers, &c.). Dog tents only. Officers have some discretion but should contact the organizers regarding any non standard items.

A bump, but also a clarification. Registration is $25 for reenactors (includes rations), $20 for Bugles Across American participants, and $0 for volunteers. Please see the site for more information, especially on volunteer needs. Thanks!
