quite possibly one of the first Civil War history books ever printed. Beadle's The Battle of Pittsburgh Landing and Siege of Corinth was offered for sale in June of 1862, only two months after the actual battle, but the copyright for it was actually entered on August 4, 1862. It was supposed to be the first of a series called Beadle's American Battles, but it was the only one in the series to be published during the war. Perhaps when the War Department saw how much information was available, they stopped further books.

It contains a surprisingly detailed account of the account and siege, but obviously lacks some details of the Confederate movement. The book appears to have been written based on newspaper accounts and official reports, under what we would now refer to as the Freedom of Information Act.
