    Default Dragon Black Powder

Digging through my powder stash I came across a can of Dragon 2F Black powder made in China.

I think I received this can when I bought out the equipment of another reenactor years ago.

Any body ever used this brand? I don't want to make up cartridges and find out it doesn't ignite properly.

Jim, I've used it to decent result several times. It worked much better in .58 percussion muskets than it did in my 1816 flintlock, but I'm sure thats due to the size of the touchhole in the '16.

Jim, I've used Dragon powder in my Enfield without any problems.

Think twice. It is essentially made for a 'fireworks lifting charge' and generates at least double the fouling
of most (even low grade) BP brands. It was $5 a lb at a time when most decent powder was $10-$12.
See the review of the varioius brands of black powder in the back of Patrick Reardon's "Making Cartridges"

It sounds to me like it's also pretty old. If Craig is right about the fouling, and it is unknown years old you may find yourself wishin' you'd have poured it out in the back yard.

Too late now. 60 rounds already made. Will post a status report after this weekend.
