My son is 16 and would like to join a reenactment group. I've having trouble finding a group in our area. I am between Kansas City and Lawrence. Anybody out there know something??

Shala,
I know that there are many good units in the Kansas City area, you may want to check out the
US Muddy River Batallion web site to locate them. usmrb.org
The Missouri Irish Brigade, 7th/30th Missouri is out of the Kansas City area and they
have there own web site, My group is out of Southeast Nebraska and we portray
a cavalry unit, we currently have several teenagers involved all with different
levels of riding skills
thanks

We are just south of K C at Harrisonville and have a artillery, infantry unit, We are basically CSA but do Fed. when we need to,
The 7th & 30th Missouri also known as the "Missouri Irish Brigade" is a very friendly group and even possesses full sets of loaner uniforms and equipment. They are mainly in the Kansas City area but have members from the surrounding states as well. If this will be the first time your son will try reenacting, that is a great group to get started!
Here is their website, http://www.moirishbrigade.org/
If that groups looks like it suits your wants, then go to their recruitment depot link and then click on the "contact us" portion of that page. It will take you to a page to fill out some information and they will get back to you within a day or two. I fell in with them for a year while I was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, KS and I'm looking forward to seeing them again at Shiloh.

There is also some really good guys in the 8th Kansas Infantry, they are guys in central Kansas, many in Wichita and are a mix of both authentic guys and others; http://www.8thkansas.org/
Another group in the area is the Holmes Brigade guys who are in KC and some live in Topeka. It is more of an authentic group if that is what you are looking for as well, here is their facebook page; http://www.facebook.com/holmesbrigade.

I would highly consider the 7th and 30th Missouri. Their home Battalion The Muddy River Battalion is very good with young guys, Holmes Brigade not as much, good guys, I would much rather fall in with the USMR.
Shala:
I was with the Missouri Irish Brigade for a year and then decided to join an artillery battery. I highly recommend the MIB....a truly great group of people.

"What a variety of hideous noises. The ping of the minie ball, the splutter of the canister, the whistling of the grape, the 'where are you', 'where are you' of screaming shells and the cannons roar from a hundred mouths went to make up the music for the great opera of death"
