Default The rumors of McDowell's Demise are Highly Premature

    Folks,

There are rumors being promulgated that the 2007 McDowell Event has been cancelled. I can assure everyone it most certainly has NOT been cancelled, and is going forward as planned.

    Here's the event website link:

    Doc B,

Sometimes out of jealousy, sometimes out of too much time on line, sometimes out of wayyyyy too much free time, sometimes out of an inflated sense of one's own importance and influence.

Sometimes out of folks not understanding that the world does not revolve around them and whether or not they are going to a particular event.

Sometimes even from an honest difference of opinion between gentleman of good will that has gotten out of hand.

See my more specific rant on the OTB concerning gossip, gossip mongering, and the planting thereof.

The event under discussion here is outside my travel range, I've never been, and don't know the folks putting it on.

I'd like to know the answer to that, too. But, even more so, why?

I haven't heard the rumor of McDowell's demise. I do know this will be my fourth McDowell...can't wait, always a good time down there.

It's good to see this event going forward. I'm tempted to add this one to my list of events for 2007, notwithstanding the long drive from Western NY. I had at least two 1st cousins, a few times removed, who served with Co. D of the 37th VA. 4th Sgt James Riley Quillen/Quillin, who died of wounds on 4/30/1862 at Lynchburg, VA Hospital. He was wounded on 3/23/1862 at the Kernstown battle leading up to McDowell. John S. Quillen: enlisted on 3/20/1861 at Estillville, VA as a Private, and mustered into "D" Co. VA 37th Infantry; POW 7/3/1863 Gettysburg, PA; and, died of disease as POW on 10/22/1863 at Fort Delaware, DE. It seems fairly likely that John would have seen action at McDowell.

But on the OTB, I thought we were supposed to do those kinds of things.
